On August 4th, Seminarian Hunsaker will be here to preach in the Divine Service and teach the adult Sunday school. His sermon text will be from Romans 9:30-10:4. For Sunday school, he will teach from the book of Exodus, which should be interesting as he has just studied and translated segments of Exodus in seminary.
Remembering St. Peter and St. Paul on Sunday, June 30th
On June 29th, the Church remembers the Apostles Peter and Paul. This year, we will transfer the feast to Sunday, June 30th. The festival of St. Peter and St. Paul is probably the oldest of the saints’ observances (dating from about the middle of the third century). An early tradition held that these two pillars of the […]

Why We Sing What We Sing in Church
This is our pastor’s article for the July-August 2013 newsletter. One of the deep enigmas in the current-day church is why we sing what we sing. Few of us have ever given much thought to that. We grew up singing hymns in church, and we like what we like. And we want to sing what […]

We will continue our study of the Old Testament Apocrypha book of 1st Maccabees. On July 4th, we won’t have class because of Independence Day.

The Bread of Life You Need
This is our pastor’s latest “From the Pulpit” article for the Stone County Gazette. Do you know one of the saddest events in the Bible? It was when many followers of Jesus rejected Him because He wasn’t the Savior they wanted. It’s in John 6. Jesus had just fed a crowd of 5,000, and […]
Thinking About the Hymns We Sing
This is our pastor’s newsletter article for June. Hymns are strange. It’s not that hymns are strange writings put to music but that many of the hymns we like and are used to singing all differ. I didn’t grow up as a Lutheran. I converted to Lutheranism in the autumn of 1988. So, most […]
