Lives Under Construction Boys to Visit SOTHLC on September 23rd

Boys from the Lives Under Construction Boys Ranch will be visiting SOTHLC on September 23rd.  On September 30th, we will have a door offering to support the work of the ranch.

LUC Boys Ranch is located west of Lampe, Missouri.  In 1982, Ken and Sheila Ortman started the ranch, and since then, it has remained a non-profit, inter-denominational, Christian-based facility.  The boys attend church every week and have a daily bible study.  Yet, they don’t just go to one church.  Each week they attend one of the 57 churches in the area.  So, it takes over a year to make the rounds.  Yet, if a boy has preference in one particular church, that is where he may attend.

The ranch has two basic principles.  The first is that God can change lives in miraculous ways.  The second is that good work habits are important in building character, self-worth, and self-discipline.

The boys at the ranch are between the ages of 7 to 21.  They come from many different states and have various backgrounds where being at the boys ranch made sense for their lives.

The ranch teaches tough love through hard work.  They learn skills like welding, mechanics, carpentry, animal husbandry, cooking, horticulture, small engine repair, living skills, and house keeping.  When they finish their completion of a trade they get a certificate.

The ranch will not turn a boy away because of lack of funds.  However, the parent(s) must fully support what the ranch does.

The LUC Boys Ranch does not receive State, County, or Federal money.  They do rely on donations from many groups and try to be as self supporting as they can.  Their web site is www.lucboys.org .  You may contact them at telephone number 417-779-5374.
