Donna Kind Gappa’s Memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Kimberling City, Missouri on Friday, September 21, at 2:00 PM.
She was born January 26, 1932, in Elkhart, Indiana, daughter of Milton Raymond Lotz and Iler Bessie Badman Harmon Lotz and died on September 6, 2018. Her family moved to Rockton, Illinois in 1938 where she spent most of her childhood. After graduating from Hononegah High School in 1951, Donna later married Arthur F. Kind of Beloit on August 11, 1956.
She was a stay-at-home mom for a while and then worked as a dispatcher for the Town of Beloit Fire Department. Later, Donna worked as a housing director for the Winnebego County Housing Authority, in Rockford, Illinois, and served as church secretary for Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Beloit. Over the years, she enjoyed singing in various church choirs, helping in many ladies’ groups, ringing in the bell choir, and functioning as congregational treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her former husbands: Ralph E. Wright, of Oak Park, Illinois, and Niles P. Gappa. So also her brothers, Edward, Kenneth (Butch) and Richard (Skip); her sisters, Helen Drew and Mary Popanz; and one grandson.
Still living are her children: Corinne (Gary) Torkilson, of Machesney Park, Illinois; Julie (Eric Easterhouse) Kind, of St. Peter, Missouri; and Reverend David (Dana) Kind, of Blaine, Minnesota. Included also her sisters, Carole (Jim) Colter, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, and Delores Loftin, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
An interment service will be held October 20, 2018, 1 PM, at the Rockton Township Cemetery, in Rockton, Illinois. If you desire to make a memorial, her family requests to make them either to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church or the University Lutheran Chapel Build-it-Back fund. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. Amen.
